Biography

Georgi Valentinov Georgiev is a Bulgarian lawyer, academic, and public figure specialising in commercial and insolvency law. He graduated with distinction from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in International and Comparative Commercial Law from King’s College London. He later earned his PhD in Law from Sofia University with a dissertation on “Charge over Commercial Enterprise,” where he now serves as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law. Georgiev has held research positions at leading academic institutions, including the Commercial Law Centre at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford, and the London School of Economics. He is a member of the Cross-Border Corporate Insolvency & Commercial Law Group at City University, London, contributing to comparative research on insolvency frameworks in more than thirty jurisdictions worldwide. With over a decade of experience as a practising lawyer with the Sofia Bar Association, Georgiev has also served as Managing Partner at Georgiev, Kolev & Katzarsky Law Offices. Beyond academia and legal practice, he has been actively engaged in public service, serving as Chair of the Sofia Municipal Council (2021–2023) and later as Deputy Chair. Currently a member of the 50th and 51st National Assemblies of Bulgaria, Georgiev chairs the Committee on Preventing and Combating Corruption. In 2023, he completed a U.S. Department of State programme on transparency and accountability in governance.
