Biography

Vice President of the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Spain since January 2023 and judge since November 2021, she has had a distinguished judicial career spanning four decades. She previously served on the General Council of the Judiciary, presiding over both the Observatory against Domestic and Gender-based Violence and the Equality Commission (2008–2013). Her leadership has contributed to the development of observatories in various countries, and she has lectured widely at national and international levels. She began her judicial career in 1985 and held key positions including Judge at the Provincial Court of Valencia and President of the Third Section of the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia. An accomplished author, she received the prestigious “Rafael Martínez Emperador” award in 2003 for her pioneering work on gender perspective in legal interpretation. She has co-authored several influential guides on gender violence, human trafficking, and legal reasoning. Her expertise has been sought by parliamentary commissions on gender violence and anti-discrimination law. She holds the Grand Cross of the Order of San Raimundo de Peñafort and has received numerous honours, including the Gold Medal of Andalusia and the Ministry of Equality Award.
