Andrea Membretti has a PhD in Sociology at the University of Milan "Statale" and a Degree cum laude in Political Sciences at the University of Pavia (Italy). After being post doc reseacher at the University of Pavia and of Milan Bicocca, and consultant for public and private organizations in the field of participatory planning and local development, Andrea has been Senior Researcher at EURAC Research (Italy)and at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), where he has been the Scientific Coordinator of the Horizon2020 project MATILDE (Migration impact assessment to enhance local integration in rural and mountain areas of Europe - Andrea is now Assistant Professor of Sociology of the Territory at the University of Pavia (Italy) and Research Affiliate at the Department of Cultures, Politics & Society of the University of Turin. He is also Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of the Free State (South Africa). His main field of study is migration to European and non-European mountain and rural territories, in relation to climate change, local development, “remotization” and community resilience. He is one of the founders of the ForAlps (Foreign Immigration in the Alps) network and of the association Riabitare l’Italia. His last book (with Dax T. and Krasteva A., eds.) is "The Renaissance of Remote Places. MATILDE Manifesto (Routledge, 2022).
